About Our Preschool

Matthews Presbyterian Church dates to February 10, 1877, when a commission appointed by the Mecklenburg Presbytery organized the Matthews Presbyterian Church. Our first church building was a one-room frame structure with stained glass windows. A steeple over the vestibule held a large, good-toned bell, the only one in town, which was tolled for funeral services and used to signal fires. The bell remains in our church today.

We've come a long way since then. In the fall of 2000, we opened our Preschool, Matthews Presbyterian Church Child Development Center, strives to create a nurturing environment for our students and families that encourages growth, love and laughter. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful families as part of our preschool community and we are grateful every day that they have chosen to share their children with us.

What our families say about us

“Our daughter has been attending school at MPCCDC since September 2020. From the introductory meeting, we couldn't have felt better about our decision to enroll there. Our daughter has very serious food allergies, and it had been difficult to find a school that fully understood how to handle her allergies.

The entire staff at MPCCDC goes above and beyond every single day to ensure that our daughter is safe, and also able to enjoy her snacks and lunch with all her friends. We are in constant communication with the teachers and our daughter is excited to go to school. She even asks to go on her days off! They foster a fun, educational and nurturing environment; we highly recommend MPCCDC to any parents seeking exceptional child education and care”

“We could not love the MPC-CDC program anymore than we already do! My oldest has been in the program for 3 years and my youngest started last year. As director, Heather is the most responsive and wonderful leader. She is always quick to communicate, and everything she does shows that her number one priority is the safety and well-being of the students and staff. Even in a pandemic, we felt confident sending our children to this school as one of the few places we deemed safe. The teachers are always amazing at handling whatever is thrown at them with love and grace. We love MPC-CDC and are so happy with the growth we have seen in our children since attending.”

“We absolutely love MPCCDC. Our son Oliver has been going there for 4 years now. He started in the infant class. All the teachers are so caring and loving. In September it will be his last year and we will be sad to have him go to an actual school! Heather and all the teachers always look out for the children and make it a safe and fun learning environment. Oliver always comes home with a smile on his face. This place is truly special. Thank you to an amazing and caring team.“

“We started at MPC-CDC when our oldest daughter was 2 years old. From the moment we stepped foot inside the school, I knew it was the right fit for our family. Heather is kind, generous, wonderful to the kids, and all-around a fantastic director, and person. The teachers are so willing to help the kids grow and learn, all while creating a loving, friendly atmosphere for everyone. I truly cannot say enough good things about our time at MPC-CDC. Our kids looked forward to going every day, and we loved having them at such a wonderful school.“
